Top Dayton recruit to play in event in Vandalia

Top Gun Showcase will include DaRon Holmes and nation’s top 2022 recruit

Organizers of the Flyin’ To The Hoop tournament, which was cancelled in December, announced Monday a new event is coming to Vandalia High School in March.

The FTTH Top Gun Showcase will take place March 7-8. Nine teams will take part in six games. There will be 600 tickets available for purchase on the event’s website for each of the three sessions.

One of the teams, AZ Compass Prep, ranks second in the MaxPreps.com top 25. Its roster includes Dayton Flyers recruit DaRon Holmes, the 36th-ranked recruit in the class of 2021, according to Rivals.com.

Compass Prep will play Ypsi Prep, of Michigan, in the final game of the event at 7:45 p.m. on March 8. Ypsi Prep’s roster includes former Belmont center Shawn Phillips, who ranks 61st in the class of 2022, and Emoni Bates, a Michigan State recruit who ranks first in the class of 2022.

Holmes and Phillips aren’t the only players in the field who have been offered scholarships by Dayton. Twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson, who are in the class of 2022 and play for Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.), were offered scholarships by Dayton in November. Fray Nguimbi, of First Love Academy (Pa.), received an offer in June.
