Tyler Eifert: Will miss offseason workouts, expects to start training camp

Tyler Eifert won’t be on the field with the Cincinnati Bengals begin offseason workouts April 17, but the Pro Bowl tight end told the team website he expects to be ready by the start of training camp in July.

“I’m feeling good. I continue to get better. My back feels great,’ Eifert told Bengals.com on Monday, adding that he could be cleared as early as OTAs in May or mini camp in June, but definitely by training camp.

“I’ll be ready and healthy and strong and be ready to go by the time it’s go time,” he said. “I’m close.”

Eifert missed the first six games of the 2016 season while recovering from offseason ankle surgery before injuring his back a few days before he was to make his debut.

He caught 29 passes for 364 yards and five touchdowns before re-injuring his back and missing the final two games of the season.

Eifert has yet to play a full 16-game season during his four years in the league. After starting 15 games as a rookie, he has appeared in just 22 of a possible 48 games the last three seasons.
