Dayton Dragons accepting donations for Oregon District Tragedy Fund

The Dayton Dragons will accept donations for the Dayton Oregon District Tragedy Fund during Monday night’s game at Fifth Third Field.

In addition, proceeds from the nightly 50/50 raffle that benefits the Dragons Foundation will all go toward the Tragedy Fund.

The Dayton Community Blood Bank also will be at the Fifth Third Field plaza during Tuesday’s Dragons game to take appointments only for those wishing to donate blood.

The Dayton Oregon District Tragedy Fund was announced on Sunday by the Dayton Foundation in support of survivors and relatives of nine people who were killed and 27 injured during a mass shooting early Sunday morning at the Oregon District. The gunman also was killed by Dayton police.

The Dragons postponed their Sunday game against the visiting Lake County Captains and instead will play a doubleheader today, beginning at 6 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Dragons officials will “pass the bucket” during both games tonight. Donations will benefit the Tragedy Fund. All the money generated on the Monday and Tuesday raffles also will go toward the Tragedy Fund.

The Dragons will honor victims prior to the start of Monday’s second game. Tuesday’s Dragons game also is against the Captains at 7 p.m. The Dragons will be on a three-game road series at the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Wednesday through Friday, and return home for a three-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday.
