Defensive tackle a surprise healthy scratch on Bengals inactive list

Billings' absence should give rookie Ryan Glasgow more snaps to go against his older brother , Detroit Lions left guard Graham Glasgow.

Wide receiver and special teams staple Cody Core also is a surprise on the inactive list for the first time since Week 10 last year.

Running back Joe Mixon, linebacker Vontaze Burfict and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick are active and expected to return to their starting positions after each player missed the last two games with concussions.

The other inactives for the Bengals are injured left tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (shoulder) and four healthy scratches in cornerback KeiVarae Russell, running back Jarveon Williams, defensive tackle Josh Topou and tackle Justin Murray.

Clint Boling will make his first career start at left tackle for Ogbuehi, while Christian Westerman will make his first career start — and NFL debut — as the left guard.

Westerman, the team’s fifth-round pick in 2016, has only been active for one game in his career, the Week 2 Thursday night game against Houston. But he did not play.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Westerman and Alex Redmond, who signed as a college free agent in 2016, both will play today.
