Commentary: Looking forward to seeing Buckeyes’ throwback jerseys

OK, I’m going to run a little against my close-to-the-vest spending habits here.

I kind of like the idea Ohio State is going with a throwback jersey for the Michigan game in two weeks, even though I understand it’s another marketing ploy to separate all of us from our money.

This isn’t so much about honoring the 1954 National Championship team as it is for Nike and OSU to sell more shirts to fans.

I know I’m years beyond buying one of those jerseys, but in my heyday of purchasing sports shirts and stuff, I would have welcomed alternative lounge-wear. I love it now that baseball has hundreds of different combinations of uniforms — for batting practice, day games, night games, weekend games, throwback games.

If your team has only one jersey, you buy it and wear it until you get tired of it, and wear it again. That’s no fun.

You ought to be able to have a jersey for work, one for leisure, one to go grocery shopping and one to use while washing your car.

Seriously, who said all jerseys must come in white and gray, and that’s it? I like the idea of different logos as well.

I didn’t say I was going to buy one, but I’m still not against the idea.
