College Insider: Hodge, Osterman key in Centre's 2-0 start

A pair of local players have been key contributors to the Centre College football team’s 2-0 start this season.

Junior linebacker Brian Hodge, a Ross High School graduate, and sophomore quarterback Tyler Osterman (Monroe) are both starters for the NCAA Division III Colonels, who have defeated Hanover and Maryville.

The 6-foot, 214-pound Hodge has eight solo tackles and five assists for Centre, also blocking an extra point and a field goal.

Osterman has completed 39-of-60 passes for 445 yards and six touchdowns. He’s also carried the ball 26 times for 123 yards and punted twice for a 38.5-yard average.

Centre visits DePauw on Saturday, Sept. 19.

• Junior wide receiver Boise Moon (Hamilton) helped Urbana stun Dayton 13-10 at Welcome Stadium last weekend, the Division II Blue Knights’ first win over a Division I FCS program.

Moon had one catch for 8 yards, one rush for 9 yards, two solo tackles and one assist for Urbana (2-1).

• Junior quarterback Jared Phillips (Hamilton) has completed 8-of-18 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns this season for Morehead State (1-1).

Phillips has also rushed 10 times for 49 yards.

Sophomore defensive end Mark Hall (Lakota East) has accumulated three solo tackles, four assists and two sacks.

• Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Riley Dunlop (Lakota East) has caught four passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns for Ohio (1-1).

He’s also returned one punt for 30 yards.

Men’s soccer

Senior forward Ben Thomas (Fairfield) has one goal and one assist this year for Northern Illinois (1-2-1).

• Senior Mike Hansford (Lakota West) has 18 saves as the starting goalie for Hanover (1-2).

Men’s cross country

Redshirt senior Matt Peters and his twin brother, fellow Lakota East graduate Mike Peters, helped Dayton capture Bowling Green’s Mel Brodt Invitational last weekend.

Matt finished 11th in a time of 25:46.4. Mike’s time was 26:38.1.

• IUPUI sophomore Adam Gloyeske (Badin) took 17th place with a time of 27:17.16 last weekend as the Jaguars won the IPFW Invitational.

Women’s tennis

Mount St. Joseph has a 4-3 record, aided by local freshmen Alisha Cooper (Edgewood) and Kelsey Donovan (Ross).

Cooper is 3-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles for the Lions. Donovan is 2-3 in singles and 1-2 in doubles.
