College Insider: Lakota East’s White collects multiple major honors at Findlay

The honors have piled up for Lakota East High School graduate Alex White at the University of Findlay.

White, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound senior forward for the Oilers men’s basketball team this season, has earned the Mancuso Award as UF’s top male athlete in 2018-19.

He was named a second-team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and was also selected as the Midwest Region and Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

White, also a member of the G-MAC All-Defense Team, averaged 18.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 assists per game. He shot 54.8 percent from the floor, 39.8 percent from 3-point range and 68.4 percent from the foul line.

He set a school record for blocks in a season (59) and is also Findlay’s career leader in blocks (130) while finishing his career with 1,135 points.

White is a marketing major with a 3.11 grade point average. Off the court, he’s spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, the Hancock County Special Olympics, Race for the Cure and Relay for Life.

The Oilers went 28-5 this year, losing to Bellarmine in the second round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.

Baseball: Freshman pitcher Jared Berger (Badin) is 2-0 with one save and 2.45 earned run average for Marian (Ind.).

Berger has pitched eight times in relief, collecting 10 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.

Freshman outfielder Tyler Hargrove (Badin) is also contributing for the Knights. He only has four at-bats, but has scored 15 runs and stolen one base in 20 appearances.

Marian is 18-11 overall and 10-3 in the Crossroads League. The Knights will visit Huntington (Ind.) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

• Sophomore outfielder Evan Trentman (Fairfield) is 6-for-9 with five RBIs in his last three games for Spalding (Ky.), raising his batting average to .356.

Trentman has two doubles, 10 RBIs and five steals for the Golden Eagles. He’s played in 16 games and made 15 starts.

Spalding is 18-7 overall, 8-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and will host Transylvania on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
