College Insider: Catrine, Boxrucker putting up points for Valpo

Frank Catrine and Cody Boxrucker have scored three touchdowns apiece this season for Valparaiso University’s football team.

Catrine, a junior wide receiver and Fenwick High School graduate, has 19 receptions for 185 yards and three scores.

Boxrucker, a freshman running back from Badin, has rushed across the goal line three times, totaling 64 yards on 23 carries.

The Crusaders, 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Pioneer Football League, will visit Stetson on Saturday at noon.

• Five local players are starting for Urbana, which is 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Mountain East Conference. They include:

Senior wide receiver Eric Pelfrey (Edgewood), who has 11 catches for 121 yards.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Chris Richardson (Middletown), who has 16 solo tackles and six assists.

Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Onajai Davenport (Middletown), who has 19 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Junior Devan Pankey (Hamilton), who plays right offensive tackle.

Sophomore Nick Bittinger (Middletown), who plays left offensive guard.

The Blue Knights will host West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m.

• Senior middle linebacker Mike Kelly (Lakota West) registered eight total tackles in Navy’s 46-40 upset of sixth-ranked Houston last weekend.

Kelly has five solos and 11 assists this year for the Midshipmen, who are 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the American Athletic Conference.

Navy will host Memphis on Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m.

Women's soccer: Senior defender Jessica Brown (Fairfield) and junior goalkeeper Courtney Barker (Lebanon) have started every game for Ashland, which is 7-1-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Brown has one goal and one assist. Barker has allowed eight goals with an .857 save percentage.

The Eagles will be at home against Saginaw Valley State on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Volleyball: Junior setter Allie Muha (Lakota West) leads Bellarmine in assists with 554 and also has 122 digs, 36 kills, 13 total blocks and 11 service aces.

The Knights are 12-5 overall and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They will travel to Aurora, Ill., for the Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover event Friday and Saturday, opening against Ashland at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
