Located on the ground floor of the city-owned historic Fort Piqua Plaza downtown, the restaurant is the fourth from Basil’s on Market owners Todd Uhlir and Jeff Finklestein.
It is referred to as a “culinary adventure” and will offer “classically crafted comfort food,” according to a press release announcing its opening.
“We really enjoyed working with the city of Piqua on this project,” Uhlir said in the release.
“They made sure we had everything we needed at every phase of the project and supported our vision for the restaurant’s design, set-up and offerings.”
Spokeswoman Theresa Steele told this news organization that the menu will be completely different than what is offered at Basil’s locations in downtown Dayton, Troy and Mason.
“The only thing that is taken from Basil’s is the fried green tomatoes, and they will have a different preparation,” Steele said.
Locktenders menu will include a list of sandwiches that includes the Bloody Mary Grill as well as Black and Blue Ravioli, Shepherd’s Pie, Maryland Crab Cakes and other entrees.
The bar menu will include crafted cocktails such as the Pepper Peach Tea Tom Collins, the Lock-a-Rita, and the Bad Ass Bloody Mary, a press release said.
The restaurant will employ 25.
Locktenders and its logo pay homage to Piqua and Lock No. 9, the press release says.
Located on Main Street, the lock was a central part of Piqua’s transportation history.
The restaurant’s interior showcases images of Piqua throughout the years.
