WATCH: Pickpockets get sneaky to snag a woman’s wallet in Fairfield, and police are looking for them

Fairfield police are asking for help in identifying two men who stole an unsuspecting woman’s wallet out of her purse at a local restaurant. Officials also believe they may be suspects in similar area incidents.

The woman slung her purse over the back of a chair and draped her coat over top while she ate a meal with a friend on Jan. 19. In the video you see the two suspects move a table and chairs to get close to the woman. Then the first suspect acts as a lookout while the second suspect removes his jacket and covers his right arm with it, then reaches into the woman’s purse to steal the wallet. The man then reaches back into the purse a second time to see if there is anything else to steal, according to police.

The video shows the men move the table and chairs back before leaving. The woman’s credit cards were later used for to purchase thousands in gift cards at Target at Bridgewater Falls in Fairfield Twp., said Sgt. Pete Lagemann.

“We thought it was nice of them to move the table back,” Lagemann said with a sarcastic laugh.

The men are suspects in similar pickpocket incident in Springfield Twp. and Sharonville, according to the sergeant.

Fairfield police are also working with other agencies along Interstate 75 where similar pickpocket incidents have been reported. There was an arrest recently in Tennessee involving a similar incident.

Lagemann said anyone carrying a purse or bag with valuables should remember to keep them in eyesight while seated at restaurants or other public places. He noted the victim in the video did place her coat over the purse to conceal it some, but it hung down below, making it a target for thieves.
