UD warns students as St. Patrick’s Day, NCAA First Four approach

The University of Dayton emailed students on Monday, asking them to “act responsibly” as St. Patrick’s Day and the NCAA basketball tournament approaches.

Students were asked to carry their university I.D. card with them at all times, abide by building occupancy limits and make “responsible decisions related to alcohol,” according to the email signed by vice president for student development William Fischer and associate vice president for student development and dean of students Christine Schramm.

“Remember, the choices you make reflect on your reputation as well as on the reputation of the University — and they can ultimately affect the value of your degree,” officials said in the email.

Sexual and physical assaults, vandalism and destruction of property will not be tolerated, and officials asked students to report instances of such activity. They reminded students of Ohio law banning open containers of alcohol in public places.

Students hosting guests for the holiday or tournament could also face disciplinary action if their guests exhibit “poor conduct,” officials said.

“Everyone at the university is committed to your health and safety and to ensuring that the university’s reputation and the value of your degree continue to remain high,” officials said. “Please make sure you are doing your part, too.”
