Prout, who’s been president and CEO for 17 years, will remain as CEO, the organization’s highest-ranking official.
At Rochester Regional Health System, Clement was responsible for transforming Rochester General Health System from a two-hospital, $600 million locally-focused organization into a $1.9 billion, five-hospital regional integrated health delivery system serving more than one million residents of central and western New York.
“Mark is an accomplished and experienced health care executive who understands the complexities of a large healthcare system like ours,” Prout said. “His track record for working collaboratively and achieving results has been exceptional. We are thrilled to have Mark help lead our organization during this time of health care transformation and expect him to play a vital role in the leadership of TriHealth in the years ahead.”
TriHealth operates five hospitals and another 130 provider locations in Greater Cincinnati, including Bethesda Butler Hospital in Hamilton and most recently McCullough-Hyde in Oxford.
Clement, 61, a native of Cincinnati, has spent the last 23 years as president or CEO for major health care systems or hospitals around the country, including at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago; MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, Mass.; and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston.
“I look forward to joining TriHealth, an organization known for its high-quality, cutting-edge care provided by some of the nation’s leading physicians and caregivers,” Clement said. “Based on what I’ve seen across the country, I believe TriHealth is at the forefront of the new health care delivery model and I am excited to join the team taking the organization to the next level.”
Prout said Clement will be involved in the network’s new strategic planning process over the next year, as well as involvement with physician and clinical leadership, finances and operations. TriHealth is the fourth largest employer in Cincinnati with over 11,000 employees.
A 1972 graduate of Moeller High School, Clement earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science and a Master’s degree in hospital and health administration from Xavier University.
“Having grown up in Cincinnati … I’ve watched from afar the work that’s been done under John the last 18 years,” Clement said. “TriHealth is nationally recognized for quality. (Health care has) gone from episodic, transactional care to now taking responsibility for managing the health of populations.”
