Alarms are controlled by an access code provided to each tenant. Entering the code at the facility’s security gate disables the alarm and re-entering while exiting arms the alarm, Niehaus said. It also alert Niehaus as to who’s entering and exiting and alerts him via a siren for a non key-coded entry into a unit.
“When you’re at home wondering ‘Is anybody in my unit?,’ well, they can’t be because … if they lift that door, we get notified of an illegal entry,” he said. “We try to sell a little bit of peace of mind.”
Individual door alarms are rare in the industry and are just one part of the facility’s state-of-the-art security, Niehaus said.
“We have IP video surveillance cameras, which are a step above standard analog cameras,” he said, noting each one provides a recorded history of any and all movement on the property.
AAA Self Secured Storage features 24-hour access to standard interior and exterior units currently ranging in sizes from 5-by-5 up to 10-by-30. Each building features wide interior hallways and a free box truck with each move in. Also available are climate-controlled units.
Niehaus used his 35 years of construction industry experience to provide wider-than-normal exterior aisles, better lighting and improved climate control.
“It’s just the little things in this facility that make being here nicer than being someplace else,” he said. “It’s not the old-school storage facility. It was built to make people comfortable about storing their stuff here.”
The facility is staffed by Niehaus and two part-time employees but is looking to hire more and eventually grow from four buildings with 45,000 square feet of space to 11 buildings with 150,000 square feet of space, Niehaus said. As more buildings are constructed, larger units will also be available.
The facility’s owners, who invested more than $2 million into opening in Fairfield Twp., are now exploring the possibility of opening more locations in Butler, Warren and Hamilton counties, he said.
