Ohio politicians react to mass shooting in El Paso, Texas

Political leaders from Ohio reacted Saturday to news of a mass shooting in the Texas city of El Paso.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbot said in a press conference that at least 20 were killed and 26 others were wounded in the shooting at a shopping complex. The suspected gunman is in custody.

The names of the victims have not been released.

“Our hearts break for the people of El Paso and families of all those lost,” Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Mansfield, said on Twitter. “We’re grateful to all first responders who run into harm’s way to keep us safe. Once again, thoughts and prayers are not enough — we must act.”

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Cincinnati, called it “a horrific act of violence,” in a tweet Saturday night. “We all mourn with the families of those killed our injured at the tragedy in El Paso. ... We will continue to lift up in prayer everyone involved & we are grateful for the courageous response of police officers & first responders at the scene.”
