Uncalled for

I am appalled by parts of Angela Presswood's Dec. 18 letter to the editor ("Their votes didn't count after all"). She said that, if she had what she wanted, it would be to fill the open position on Hamilton City Council with an African-American. She went on to point out that there have only been three African-Americans elected to city councils in 52 years. This insinuation — that the voters of Hamilton are racists — is uncalled for. Does she have statistics and demographics to substantiate this insult? Maybe there only have been three African-Americans on Hamilton City Council because their choice was to pursue other endeavors. It is time to stop this slamming attitude.
