Plankton supports the food chain. If the oil gets into the chain, it scares me. There is a lot of oil down there and a lot leaking. The world should declare war on this catastrophe and do all we can do, just in case BP can't stop it. I pray we get this right.
Regarding the (May 23) letter from Mr. (Dean) Kallander who wrote about the need for logic and reasoning: I couldn't agree with him more. Unfortunately, the examples Mr. Kallander chooses to support his argument don't all meet his criteria. Irrational statements are made by both political extremes, not just those mentioned. Borders can be policed without making government and taxes larger. Unemployment is still a huge problem. Permanent jobs are needed and one month's government report doesn't change that reality. The U.S. Constitution needs to be consistently upheld, not changed to meet situational ethics. Nobody is trying to deny constitutional rights to Americans. The problem is what to do about illegal immigrants. They cannot logically be afforded the same rights as legal U.S. citizens.
Regarding the May 20 call about the poisoning of cats: I am thinking about how cruel it is for a person to intentionally poison an animal that they knew was another person's loved pet. At the very moment that I was sitting and thinking about this, I saw a cat trotting out of the woods of my lot with a beautiful yellow gold finch clasped tightly in its jaws. This was quite possibly the same bird I have been watching, flitting from tree to tree just a few minutes before. At that moment, I am so angry that if it was possible to do so, I would eliminate every stray cat that I could find — by any means at my disposal. I now believe that the people who uncaringly turn their precious pets out to prey on the wildlife are the villains here. They are the ones who need to be prosecuted.
