Administrative and operational issues have closed a Bureau of Motor Vehicles office on the east side of Hamilton, an official authorized to speak about the situation told the Journal-News today.

Drivers visiting the the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Deputy Registrar’s office today at the Hamilton Crossings plaza on South Erie Boulevard found a sign on the front door saying the agency was closed until further notice.

The office’s deputy registrar, Benita Davis, resigned earlier in the day, according to the BMV.

“There were administrative and operational issues at the agency that we were there to address at which time she resigned,” said Lindsey Bohrer, BMV public information officer, in an email statement.

Deputy registrars are contracted agents who offer driver license, state identification card and vehicle registration services in each county for the BMV.

Davis has been a deputy registrar since October 1992 and her current agency contract was set to expire in 2019, according to Bohrer.

Bohrer did not elaborate on what the administrative and operational issues were.

An interim contract will be awarded to a new deputy registrar, she said.

“We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible so we can restore services to that area,” Bohrer said.

There are two other BMV locations in the immediate area including:

  • 138 N. Brookwood Ave., Hamilton
  • 530 Wessel Drive, Suite L, Fairfield
