WATCH: Video shows Middletown police canine finding meth during search at traffic stop

A Middletown patrol officer noticed some suspicious activity early Tuesday afternoon, which led to a traffic stop that resulted in two people taken to jail.

Officer Andrew Minic saw what he believed to be a drug transaction and stopped a car with a male and a female in it at the Auto Zone, 1735 Central Ave. after 1 p.m., according to Maj. David Birk.

Minic then called for a police canine to sniff around the car for any drugs.

Officer Dennis Jordan arrived with police canine Koda, who sniffed around the car, alerting Jordan of the presence of an illegal substance several times by barking and sitting.

That gave police enough probable cause to conduct a search. While police were thoroughly going through the car, one suspect was already in the back of one cruiser while a female officer searched the female suspect before handcuffing her and putting her in the back of her cruiser.

Police found one gram of methamphetamine in the car and both occupants were arrested and taken into custody, Birk said. The incident remains under investigation and no other information was available, Birk said.

Koda, a German shepherd, is one of five canines that Middletown police utilize in its drug deterrence efforts.
