Marching band to raise money for semi-trailer

Hamilton High School’s marching band is holding its first “Tag Day” today to raise money to buy a semi-trailer to haul its gear.

Some 115 band and flag corps members will take to the streets of Hamilton from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., going door-to-door hoping to raise $8,000 for the project, according to Shawn Davis, president of the Band Parents and coordinator of the efort.

“We have so many props and instruments now that we have out-grown the box truck that we use,” she said. “We have a small trailer that we get band parents with vans to help pull, and we usually end up filling their van, too.

“It’s been a scramble lately to get all the equipment where it needs to be.”

The theme of the event is “Savin’ for a Semi: Go Big or Go Home.”

Davis said that they have found a trailer already for a good price, $7,800.

“We still have to figure out a way to get a cab to pull it,” she said. “Renting a cab could be expensive, but we band parents with connections to the trucking industry, so we should be able to find a good deal.”

Donations can also be made via PayPal.com on the band’s website, www.hamiltonhighband.org.
