Man falls off Ohio cliff, crawls naked to safety after four days in ravine

A man who fell off a cliff fractured his legs, pelvis and wrist and spent four days in a ravine before crawling to a nearby northeast Ohio golf course.

A worker at the course in Elyria came across 30-year-old Gerald Muskiewics and called for help, Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino told WJW-TV.

Muskiewicz was naked with signs of hypothermia when found. Muskiewicz told officers the temperature was getting colder so he removed clothes that had gotten soaked in a river.

"He's very fortunate," Costantino told WJW-TV. "If it wasn't for the worker who was able to find him, the end result certainly could have been tragic."

Muskiewicz told police he was on the phone at about 2 a.m. Friday with his ex-wife while walking along a road above the cliff. He said she had agreed to meet him near the golf course at the bottom of the cliff, which officials said ranged from 30 to 100 feet high. He lost his footing heading to the golf course, Muskiewicz told detectives.

Alcohol or drugs likely factored into the fall, Costantino told WJW-TV. Muskiewicz was treated at a Cleveland hospital.
