The novel, Abrams said, is the story of a young man named Tim whose brother has run off to fight against the British and his father for the British, leaving him and his mother alone to run the family tavern.
Bagley said that the character trait that inspires him from the story is Responsibility, because Tim had to clean the tavern and take care of the animals while trying to figure out what side of the war he believed in.
“It helped me realize that there are going to be a lot of problems as we go through life, and Honesty and Responsibility are character traits that will help us deal with those,” Abrams said.
