Vintage Vault offers mix of antiques, collectibles, furniture

HAMILTON — Scott Jackman’s pursuit of antiques and collectibles stretches back three decades to his teenage years.

“If I found something that was really cool, like a tin sign, I used my grass-cutting money to buy it,” he said.

Now, the Hamilton native and his fiancée, Terry Stevens, are working to turn a pastime into a profitable business with Vintage Vault, a new 1,500-square-foot store that features antiques, collectibles and upscale used furniture.

Scheduled to open Saturday at 2531 Pleasant Ave. in Hamilton’s Lindenwald neighborhood, the business will feature a plethora of items Jackman tracked down in recent months via estate sales.

“We’re not an antique shop and we’re not strictly used furniture,” Jackman said. “It’s ... an emporium-type feel with really eclectic, cool vintage furniture. Just a little bit of everything.”

The business also will showcase local artists, as well as local artisans who work with furniture to create a “shabby chic” and “distressed décor” look, Jackman said.

While getting the store organized took only a month, the couple has been collecting together for years, Jackman said.

“We’ve got a house of really cool stuff,” he said.

Jackman said the former bank’s large, open space lends itself well to its inventory and a massive walk-in Mosler Safe Company vault in the back of the store helped inspire the store’s name.

An initial batch of collectables includes antique barber chairs, a 1960s-era telephone both and a metallic Coca Cola sign once displayed at a gas station.

Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
