Truck hits pole in Centerville, causes outage for hundreds of DP&L customers

(UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m.): The driver of a tree-trimming truck may be cited in the accident that initially left roughly 2,100 DP&L customers without service when he hit a power pole on Clyo Road in Centerville, police department Public Information Officer John Davis said.

The truck was headed north on Clyo when it left the right side of the road in the area of Quaker Way, continued into a ditch and hit the pole just after 4 p.m. The impact knocked the lines off their position on the pole, but did not bring the pole down, Davis said.

The DP&L crew said the pole will have to be replaced, but not today, Davis said. The crew’s priority was to restore service.

Police did pat down the truck driver for officer safety before putting him a police cruiser, Davis said.

He may be cited, Davis said, at the very least for failure to control.

At 6:30 p.m., the online DP&L outage map showed 638 in Montgomery County (626 in the affected area).
