Springboro councilman resigns

SPRINGBORO

A Springboro city councilman has resigned less than two years after being elected.

Sean Kuhn stepped down from his Ward 2 seat Wednesday because his company is relocating him, according to his resignation letter.

“This confirms our previous conversations regarding my relocation out of the area for my job,” according to the letter dated Sept. 30. “It has been a true honor to serve this community and specifically the residents of Ward 2 over the past couple of years.

“This decision is not an easy one as I have truly enjoyed the friendships and comradery of those I serve with on council as well as those on city staff and management,” the letter states.

Attempts to reach Kuhn on Friday were unsuccessful.

Kuhn took office on Jan. 1, 2014. He ran unopposed in Ward 2 after its boundaries were changed following the 2010 census, according to the city. Ward 2’s general boundaries now include the area on the eastern portion of Lytle Five Points Road consisting of a portion of Settlers Walk and the remaining subdivisions to the east.

The city is now accepting applications for the seat’s unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2017. Qualified applicants for the seat — which pays $1,000 a month — must have lived in the city for at least two consecutive years, be a registered voter and now live in Ward 2, according to the city.

Applications and resumes should be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16, according to the city. They should be sent to Lori Martin, clerk of council, 320 W. Central Ave. Springboro, Ohio 45066. They can also be emailed to lori@cityofspringboro.com.

This is the first mid-term council vacancy in the city since Lori Kershner resigned from her Ward 1 seat in October of 2014. Council voted that November to replace her with Janie Ridd.
