Saturation patrol makes 1 OVI arrest near Butler County checkpoint

One OVI arrest was made during a saturation patrol near a Butler County OVI checkpoint Friday night.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Hamilton post along with members from the Butler County OVI Task Force conducted Friday’s checkpoint from 9 p.m. to midnight on Ohio 128 near milepost 2 in Ross Twp.

Troopers and other officers checked a total of 438 vehicles, with four vehicles being diverted for additional investigation. That resulted in one driver being cited for driving under suspension.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, are designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Last year, troopers made 26,602 OVI arrests statewide, according to Lt. Clint Arnold, Hamilton post commander.

He said in 2018, troopers investigated 13,335 OVI-related crashes in which 394 people were killed and 7,799 people were injured in Ohio.
