Rides resume after Cedar Point power outage strands riders

People celebrating Memorial Day at Cedar Point amusement park got a bit more of a thrill than expected when some of the rides stopped abruptly during an afternoon power outage, stranding some riders atop roller coasters.

UPDATE @ 4:17 p.m.

A spokesman for Cedar Point, Tony Clark, sent the following statement regarding the power outage and stranded riders.

“At approximately 1:45 p.m. Monday, Cedar Point experienced an interruption in its power supply to a section of the park. The outage was caused by a vehicle accident in which a car struck a power pole. All of the rides that were affected safely came to a stop and all guests were escorted off. Ohio Edison has restored power and rides are reopening.”

UPDATE @ 3:58 p.m.

Cedar Point officials said power has been restored to the park.

A power outage has been reported at Cedar Point this afternoon, according to the amusement park.

 

Our CBS affiliate WTOL in Toledo reported some guests are stuck on rides.
