Oxford Rotary Club offers American flags for holidays

As you walk, bike or drive around the Oxford area this Memorial Day weekend, you may notice more American flags lining neighborhood streets this year thanks to the Rotary Club of Oxford’s patriotic community service program Oxford Community Stars and Stripes.

The fundraiser will support the club’s many philanthropic activities, including the funding of youth-oriented programs in the community, college scholarships for Talawanda High School Seniors, and Rotary Youth Leadership Academy. In cooperation with Rotary International, the Oxford club also supports selected global health and education projects.

For $40, a property owner purchases a yearly subscription to have Rotarians install a 3-foot by 5-foot flag on a 10 foot tall pole on their property for the following five federal holidays – Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day. The Rotarians will return after each holiday to remove the flag and pole. The property owner does not need to be present for the installation or removal of the flag and pole, and is not responsible for storing or replacing the flag should it be damaged or even stolen.

Interested individuals can subscribe to the service in three ways: online at www.OxfordFlags.org, by mail (Rotary Club Stars and Stripes, PO Box 686, Oxford, Ohio 45056) or by asking a Rotarian for an order form and returning it to them or via mail.

Subscriptions are available to residents living in the City of Oxford, Oxford Twp. and nearby portions of Milford, Hanover and Reily townships.
