Firefighters took the baby to the hospital for a medical evaluation, but it appeared to be healthy and well taken care of.

The Safe Haven law allows mothers to give up newborns by dropping them off at hospitals, police stations and fire houses.
The fire station is currently installing a safe haven box . The box is climate controlled and allows mothers to safely surrender their newborns without having to look someone in the eye. Once the door is opened, a silent alarm is triggered and a 911 call is sent.
The baby is now in the custody of Indiana Department of Child Services.
