Monroe gas leak contained; road reopened

UPDATE @ 10:55 a.m.:

Macready Avenue in Monroe is back open after gas line like forced a shutdown earlier this morning.

The road about 30 minutes after the city water department digging in the area hit a large gas line, according to dispatchers. Duke energy respond quickly and was able to cap off the line, said Dispatcher Danny Rose.

A few residences in the area of 133 Macready were briefly displaced.

A road is shut down this morning in Monroe and some homes are being evacuated after the water department reportedly hit a gas line, according to dispatchers.

The incident occurred in the 133 block of Macready Avenue about 9:45 a.m.

The fire department and police are at the scene.

Duke Energy has been notified.
