Dayton Mayor Whaley says Dayton will ‘rise’ after tragedies

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley posted the following statement on her Facebook page Sunday afternoon reacting to the mass shooting in the Oregon District:

“Dayton has been through more than we ever could have imagined this year. In May, fourteen tornadoes tore through our community, leaving a long path of destruction. Last night, a mass shooting took nine innocent lives and wounded more than two dozen people.

“Our community has shown incredible resilience in the face of these tragedies, and I’m sure Dayton will rise to this challenge as we always have. We look out for our neighbors in Dayton. The outpouring of love and support from residents has been overwhelming. Please continue to keep the victims and their families in your prayers and thoughts in the coming days.

“We have suffered two tragedies in Dayton this year, but one was avoidable. This same tragedy has been inflicted on our nation 250 times this year alone. When is enough, enough?”
