Soon, guests at one of southwest Ohio’s largest hotels will see $8 million in changes after a significant makeover.
The popular Great Wolf Lodge, next to Kings Island in Mason, has attracted more than 5 million guests since it opened in 2006. By the end of December, those staying in the hotel’s more than 400 rooms will be settling into refurbished rooms.
Officials with the lodge announced the major refurbishment of the 450,000-square-foot hotel and entertainment center recently, and the work began Oct. 13.
“We’re excited to debut a more contemporary design for our guests and provide a fresh new atmosphere that families will really enjoy, just in time for the holiday school break,” said Kevin Eldridge, general manager at Great Wolf Lodge, which also features a 79,000-square-foot indoor waterpark.
“When complete, guests will discover more modern conveniences in-room such as an increased number of USB ports and an entirely refreshed look that immerses guests into our modern version of the north woods.”
In announcing the $8 million renovation project, which is scheduled to be done by late December, lodge officials said that “updates to each of the 401 guest rooms … include new flooring, fresh paint, light fixtures, furnishings and artwork to reflect a more modern take on the beloved north woods theme.”
“Twelve different suite styles are available at the lodge, including popular options like the Wolf Den and KidCabin suites, featuring a private alcove for kids with bunk beds and Great Wolf Lodge character theming. Large suites will continue to be available for families of all sizes and multi-generational travel, providing a home base after a day filled with water park fun.”
Tourism is the leading industry in Warren County. More than 12 million yearly visitors drive an economic impact of $1.2 billion and 11,666 tourism-related jobs.
The lodge’s first major makeover since in opened will boost those numbers, said Scott Hutchinson, director of marketing and communications for the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“Since its grand opening, Great Wolf Lodge has been a staple of both our lodging and entertainment industries and has played a major role in our county’s emergence as a popular tourism destination,” said Hutchinson.
“It’s rare that a single facility can serve as both a top-notch hotel and entertainment option, and that two-for-one punch makes the resort an extremely valuable asset for our county.
“Great Wolf Lodge has been an outstanding asset for our county’s visitors for years now, so it’s terrific to see that its ownership continues to invest in its upkeep and improvement. The resort already has a ton to offer, so we’re just as excited as anyone to see what else these renovations add to the visitor experience.”
Mason’s lodge is one of only two in Ohio – the other in Sandusky – and one of 17 Great Wolf lodges in the U.S.
