Stylists blow out a woman’s hair, then round-brush it for a style that lasts three to four days, a service Kidwell refers to as “the modern-day shampoo and set.”
“Everybody’s mom or grandma used to go and get their hair set once a week, now you can come in and get your hair styled once or twice a week,” said Kidwell, a hairdresser of 28 years.
All menu items are named after drinks. The Mimosa is the salon’s signature blowout, “shaken with a bit of body and volume.” The Skinny Martini offers a sleek, smooth and straight hairdo, while the Sea Breeze offers “messy beach waves.” Order the Cosmo for soft, loose curls and the Margarita for “big, sassy curls.”
A Flirtini is the salon’s up-do and the Shirley Temple is for girls 10 years old and younger. Shots are moisture or protein treatments.
There’s even a option for men, a Jack & Coke, which features a shampoo and scalp massage.
Blowdry’s bar theme includes “chick flicks” playing on a flatscreen TV and, upon request, may also include a complimentary mimosa or glass of wine, Kidwell said.
“We’re trying to create that environment for ladies that if they want to come in for ladies night out, they want to do their bachelorette party, they want to do a Sweet 16, they want to do a little one’s birthday party, this gives them more of an opportunity,” she said. “It’s our job to pamper them and make them feel good about themselves.
“That’s our job, it’s not just giving them a haircut.”
Laura Franchini, of Liberty Twp., said the stylist who crafted her blowout Jan. 3 did “an awesome job.”
“I would never be able to recreate anything like that myself,” Franchini said. “We had a Christmas party that had been snowed out and rescheduled for a Friday night, so it was kind of a fun way to start off my evening. Any time I can get away from my three kids for something like that, it’s enjoyable.”
