Wyatt will work part time for Carlisle. She brings more than 20 years of experience, 16 as a supervisor. She also is a qualified instructor.
“I think this is a neat opportunity to help move a fire department forward,” said Wyatt, who is a graduate of the Ohio Fire Executive Program.
City Manager Sherry Callahan said she worked with Wyatt in the past and knew her “work ethic ... philosophies and her integrity.”
There is no time line for how long Wyatt will lead Carlisle’s fire department, Callahan said, but it likely will be at least one to two years as the city works to develop a joint fire district with neighboring communities — a decision that 59 percent of people in Carlisle said they support when surveyed last year.
Wyatt said her role will be mostly administrative, but she will not be in Carlisle a lot as her schedule with Lebanon is 24 hours on and 48 hours off. She will be relying on the assistant chief and another firefighter she will promote to run fire scenes, as well as the commanding officers from departments that automatically respond to fires in Carlisle
Wyatt said is looking forward to working with Carlisle’s “young and enthusiastic” volunteers.
“I want to make this department into something this community will be proud of and something they will support,” said Wyatt, who has a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University and an associate’s degree in fire and EMS administration from Sinclair Community College.
“I’ve got the heart of a volunteer. I love the volunteers,” said Wyatt, who was a volunteer firefighter for 14 years.
“What they give back to their communities, you just can’t buy that,” she said. “There’s a lot of heart and soul here.”
