Lambikins Hideaway expands its scope with quilting, sewing

HAMILTON — One local store is sewing a new kind of business.

Lambikins Hideaway, 217 S. B St., will add quilting and sewing, fabrics, notions, books and classes to the inventory of popular knitting items it already offers.

Christina Greene, owner of the store, said she took up knitting for stress relief while working as an electrical biomedical engineer.

As her interest grew in the craft, the 32-year-old said she realized there were few sources in the area to buy knitting supplies.

“I love knitting, I like teaching and I like being around it and with people doing it, so I decided to jump in and open the knitting store,” she said.

The name of the business comes from her mother and the name given to baby sheep in Nebraska, she said.

The new sewing and quilting offerings were just the next natural next step, Greene said.

Lambikins will carry “all the fabrics we are in love with,” including 1930s and retro-style fabrics, children’s prints and Civil War reproductions, which complement the 1800s home where the store is located, Greene said.

A new manager has been hired for the quilting and sewing division and to teach classes.

Raven Parris has 50 years of experience in the craft after “sewing my own clothes since I was 8 years old,” she said.

A grand opening celebration for the new product offerings at Lambikins has been scheduled for Aug. 29-30.

Quilt designer and author Penny Haren will be on hand signing copies of her new book.

There also will be door prizes and special fabrics on discount, Greene said.
