How to recycle your Christmas tree in Butler County

Butler County residents can recycle their Christmas trees using several community composting and chipping programs.

Area trash haulers also plan to remove trees at the curb for disposal with regular trash. Residents should remove all decorations before recycling or disposing of your tree.

Hamilton residents may leave trees for for trash pick up at the curb with their household trash for pick up by Rumpke on regular trash collection days. Rumpke prefers trees to be in a disposable bag and, if larger than 6 feet, they should be cut in half. Residents of Middletown, Monroe and Trenton may leave trees at the curb with their household trash pick up by Rumpke. Middletown and Trenton residents can call 513-988-6304 for more information. Monroe residents can call 513-727-8953.

Fairfield residents may recycle trees at the Waterworks Park at 5021 Groh Lane from December 26 through January 4. Look for the tree disposal corral in the south parking area. Residents may leave trees at the curb for trash pick up.with their household trash for pick up by Rumpke on regular trash collection days. For information call 867-5370.

West Chester residents can drop off trees at Keehner Park, 7411 Barrett Road, near the tennis courts, and at Beckett Park at 8558 Beckett Road, in the soccer field area from today through Jan 31. All decorations and plastic disposal bags must be removed before leaving trees. The township will chip the trees for compost. General brush, yard debris and landscape material are not accepted. Oxford residents may leave trees at the curbside on regularly scheduled trash collection days. Trees will be picked up by the City of Oxford Streets and Maintenance Division Trees and chipped for use as mulch. No yard waste tags are required for this service. Residents are asked to remove all decorations from the tree prior to setting the tree at the curb. The holiday pick up service does not include wreaths or garland. Other disposal and recycling options include:

• Rumpke: During the first two weeks in January, Butler County Rumpke customers can leave trees at the curb for pick up with trash. After the first two weeks in January, call Rumpke at 513-742-2900 to schedule a special pick up.

• CSI/Republic Service. Customers can call 513-771-4200 to schedule tree pick up collection and for pricing.

• Tri-State Landscaping Supply at 2864 Cincinnati Dayton Road in Middletown will accept trees at no charge for composting from Butler County residents. Trees must be free of lights, tinsel and all decoration. Call 513-423-8723 for more information.

Trees aren’t the only things from the holiday season that may be recycled. Holiday lights may be recycled through Jan. 31, 2020 as MetroParks of Butler County, Cohen and Butler County partner for a recycling effort at Voice of America MetroParks’ Ronald Reagan Lodge, 7850 VOA Park Drive, West Chester and at Rentschler Forest MetroParks’ Ranger Station at 5701 Reigart Rd., Fairfield Twp.
