Grammy Awards on Sunday: John Legend, Dave Chappelle among the nominees

We’ll be rooting for two local celebrities when the 61st Grammy Awards are broadcast live at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, on WHIO-TV (CBS) Channel 7.

The live staging of “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” starring Springfield’s John Legend, was nominated in the Best Musical Theater Album category.

Legend’s involvement in the televised musical earned him an Emmy Award in September, making him the first African-American man to win the coveted EGOT, the combination of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. Legend has won 10 Grammy Awards so far.

Last year, Yellow Springs’ own Dave Chappelle won his first Grammy in the Best Comedy Album category for ‘The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas.”

He’s been nominated again this year in the same category for his album “Equanimity & the Bird Revelation.”

The ceremony, held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, will be hosted by 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys.
