Erick and Tara Donges of Hamilton have signed a five-year lease agreement to open Anytime Fitness in the former Trenton Drugs building.
It will be developed into a 4,300-square-foot facility at 825 E. State St.
Construction is scheduled to begin in February with the co-ed fitness club opening for business in the spring, said Erick Donges of the couple’s first business venture.
The couple also plan to open two additional Anytime Fitness franchises on Hamilton’s West Side, he said.
Gayle and Jack Staiger of West Chester Twp. plan to move into part of the space previously occupied by Cassano’s Pizza & Subs at 711 E. State St.
Gayle Staiger said she plans to open the 2,800-square-foot Snap Fitness facility later this month, which will be their second location.
The Staiger’s opened their first Snap Fitness on Pleasant Avenue in Fairfield in January 2009, she said.
Currently, the only fitness facility in the city is Curves, which is for women only; it also is located on East State Street.
Blake said while it is an anomaly for two of the same type of businesses to locate in the city around the same time, they will both help improve the quality of life. “There’s more options for the residents,” she said. “You don’t have to go out of town to go to a gym.”
