Monroe officials investigating fire in Family Dollar shopping center

UPDATE @ 11:15 a.m.: Most of the businesses in a Family Dollar shopping center on Cincinnati-Dayton Road are closed this morning because of smoke damage from a fire, according to Monroe fire officials.

Lt. Matt Grubbs said when an employee at the Family Dollar arrived to work this morning, that employee noticed smoke in the store. Fire officials determined the fire started in another business in the shopping center.

Grubbs said the cause of the fire is being investigated. He said it was too soon to determine the amount of damage done by the fire.

He said most of the businesses in the center received “minor damage.”

Cincinnati-Dayton Road in Monroe was closed for a while this morning for a fire in the shopping complex where the Family Dollar store is located.

The road was closed between Elm Street and Ohio Avenue for a fire investigation, but is now reopened. The fire station is located across the street from the shopping area at 6 N. Main, according to dispatchers.

The fire was not actually in the store, but in one of the other units at the centers, dispatchers.
