Fairfield Ford closes its doors

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Ford, one of only two Butler County Ford dealerships, has abruptly closed, leaving 30 people without jobs.

The dealership informed its roughly 30 employees on Friday that it was going out of business. It’s last day of operation was the next day, Oct. 1, said Stephen Watr of the Martin Management Group, which managed Fairfield Ford.

City of Fairfield Economic Development Director Greg Kathman said his office had just learned of the news Wednesday.

“They have not come in here and said anything to us,” he said. “We’re trying to figure out the situation. At this point, I don’t know what to say.”

Kathman said he heard from someone that Fairfield Ford was pulling cars off the parking lot. That’s all he’d been told.

The decision to close Fairfield Ford was made after the dealership reached a mutual agreement with Ford Motor Company to “right size” the number of dealerships, according to a news release.

“This was a difficult decision for our management team. We’d like to thank our employees for their dedication and our friends and neighbors here in Fairfield,” said Chad Martin, president of Martin Management Group in a prepared statement.

Watson said other Ford dealerships in greater Cincinnati who may have job openings are being asked to consider hiring those who lost their jobs at Fairfield Ford.

Middletown Ford on Verity Parkway is now the only Ford dealership in Butler county.

The Fairfield dealership had been open just more than 10 years, Watson said.

Ford customers can visit Ford dealerships in the surrounding area, including Kerry Ford, Northgate Ford Lincoln, Kings Ford or visit www.fordvehicles.com/dealers to find a convenient Ford store, according to the news release.
