US Marine's obituary goes viral for his hatred of DC drivers

A retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel will be remembered for his distinguished military service and his family values — and also his complete disdain for DC drivers.

Col. Robert F. Gibson died in Annandale, Virginia, in late December. Gibson, who was from Dayton, served as a Marine officer for 30 years and was deployed twice to Vietnam.

His obituary was posted on Reddit, and it has received more than 1,000 upvotes. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1962, and he commissioned later that year in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The obituary, published in The Washington Post, described his dedicated military career. He commanded at the Squadron and Group level, wrote doctrine that became the foundation for the Marine Air Command and Control System, and participated in operations in Honduras, Beirut, Norway, the Philippines, Kuwait, and Desert Storm.

And, of course, it described his hatred for NoVa drivers.

“A native of Northern VA for the last 30 years of his life, he hated how all of you were incapable of driving competently.”
