Butler County apparent murder-suicide: Woman calls 911 after finding boyfriend shot

A woman called 911 Monday night sobbing, saying her boyfriend had been shot at her Millville Avenue home in Hamilton and naming her brother as a suspect.

“He’s dead,” the woman cried.

The call led police to respond to the home and eventually led Butler County sheriff’s deputies to stop the suspect nearby, and the suspect later shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Martin Tyler Ritchie, 31, and Matthew Benjamin Ferris, 23. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office identified Ferris as the second man who shot himself, and his death was ruled a suicide. Ritchie’s death was ruled a homicide.

The dispatcher tried to get more information from the female who called 911, asking for the address.

“My boyfriend, he has been shot and I think it was my brother,” the woman said, giving the address while sobbing.

The woman said she had just came home and found her boyfriend. He said he has been shot in the head.

“Tyler, Tyler,” she screamed.
