Butler County Memorial Day events

Memorial Day events in several communities will honor the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in defense of this nation.

HAMILTON

The city’s Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. May 30.

The parade starts at the Fitton Center and heads down Market to Second Street then to High Street where it turns down Seventh Street. The route continues to Heaton and ends at Greenwood Cemetery.

Jeff Shaw, the city's deputy fire chief and a veteran of the Marine Corps, will be the grand marshal for this year's parade.

MIDDLETOWN

The Middletown Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Day Service will be held May 30.

Parade lineup will begin at 9 a.m. at Smith Park and the parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m., traveling south on Verity Parkway to Woodside Cemetery.

Parade participants are asked to use the Wilbraham Road entrance to the park because the Tytus Avenue entrance will be closed.

The Memorial Day Service will begin at the Cenotaph at Woodside Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.

FAIRFIELD

Fairfield’s Memorial Day parade will feature veterans groups, military units, the Fairfield High School Marching Band, community groups and organizations, the Fairfield Police Department, and Fairfield fire and paramedic units.

The parade will form in the parking lot of Express Scripts, located at 4865 Winton Road. Access to the parking lot will be from the Winton Road entrance only.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. Starting at Express Scripts, the parade will turn left onto Hicks; right on Nilles; left on Bibury; right on Wessel; and will end at Fairfield Veterans Memorial Park.

The Hamilton-Fairfield Concert Band will be performing patriotic music and other favorites at Veterans Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to noon.

The parade concludes with a ceremony to pay tribute to our veterans, both past and present at Veterans Memorial Park.

WEST CHESTER TWP.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7696 will host its annual Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. May 30 in West Chester Twp.

The parade will begin at the former Union Day School on Cincinnati-Dayton Road and end at Brookside Cemetery on West Chester Road.

The grand marshal of this year's parade is Lt. Col. C. Robert Perry.

In addition to the parade, there will be a flyover by the Cincinnati Warbirds, in conjunction with the Tri-State Warbirds Museum, and a ceremony following the parade.

The ceremony following the parade will feature Lakota East and Lakota West marching bands as well as guest speaker Dr. Sam Arnold.

MEMORIAL DAY CLOSINGS

Government offices in the cities of Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield and Oxford will be closed Monday.

Government offices in Butler and Warren counties will be closed Monday.

Government offices in Liberty and West Chester townships will be closed Monday.

The United State Postal Service will not have regular mail delivery Monday.

Rumpke waste and recycling service will run as scheduled.

Customers of banks are advised to call ahead to find out the holiday schedule.
