Body of Champaign County sailor who died in Navy crash comes home

Jacob Drake, the Champaign County native killed when his U.S. Navy ship crashed last month off the coast of Singapore will come home today.

The plane carrying his body is expected to land in Columbus about 4:30 p.m. The community has been asked to line U.S. 40 about 5:15 p.m. today near the Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home, 1355 W. Main St. in West Jefferson.

The 21-year-old was aboard the USS John S. McCain on Aug. 20 Eastern time when the accident occurred. The 2013 Triad graduate was one of 10 sailors who died.

A public visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service and military honors at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

"Jacob Drake comes home today!" his fiancee and fellow Triad grad Megan Partlow posted on Facebook. "This has been one of the hardest months and it's all just starting..."
