HAMILTON — Billing it as “the craziest show on Earth,” Badin High School will host a Donkey Basketball game, 7 p.m. Thursday in Mulcahey Gym.

“Teachers and students will be riding donkeys in 5-on-5 basketball competition that should be a night of crazy fun,” said Britney McGraw, president of Badin Student Council.

Buckeye Donkey Ball of Columbus provides the donkeys. Faculty members from Badin, St. Joseph and Mother Teresa will provide the participants, along with a number of Badin students. The donkeys wear “footies” to keep from tearing up the basketball court, and a clean-up crew is ever at the ready, according to school spokesman Dirk Allen.

“We’ve never done this before,” McGraw said. “But I think after this first time, it might become a regular event on the Badin calendar.”

The event will be a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of Badin freshman Kyle Bergen, who is recovering from cancer treatments, and for whom more than 70 students shaved their heads in solidarity at the beginning of the school year.

“Everything you see about Donkey Basketball says this should be a blast,” said Mollie Marot, co-moderator of Badin Student Council. “Everyone is invited to come out and share this night of fun.”

There will be free donkey rides available for children 12-and-under.

Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling Badin at (513) 863-3993, or stopping by the high school.
