Like biking? A new fundraising option will help kids in both Hamilton and Fairfield

Organizers of a bike rally fundraiser hope to raise thousands of dollars to benefit a pair of charities in two of Butler County’s largest cities.

The inaugural Great American Bike Rally will take place on Oct. 19, starting and ending at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields on Groh Lane in Fairfield. The fundraiser is designed to be “a linkage between the cities” created by Dean Bruewer and Bill Roesch, two avid cyclists who wanted to “help raise money to give back” to the cities of Hamilton and Fairfield, Bruewer said.

“Hopefully we’ll grow this into a much, much bigger event over the years, but I think it’s going to be a significant event,” Bruewer said.

The goal is to raise $25,000 to be equally split between the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields and the Boys & Girls Club of Hamilton. The Hamilton Community Foundation is partnering with the event.

“It’s something unique,” said Kim Nuxhall, the Miracle League Field’s volunteer CEO and son of Joe Nuxhall.

Nuxhall said the bike trail is one of the county’s “greatest assets” and it’s “cool” to see it being used to give back to the community.

“I’m always appreciative for people reaching out to us and supporting our mission,” he said. “We can never do this without the community’s support.”

The event will have several options for riders and will include opportunities for the disabled individuals who are served by the Miracle League.

Bike riders will then start their treks, and they have five options, which range from a 1-mile loop from to Waterworks Park and back up to a 20-mile loop from Rentschler Forest and back.

“It’s kind of a pretty open option for people who want to ride, maybe some fast riders want to do the full 20 (miles), and hopefully a lot of family riders that would want to do a quiet leisurely ride and watch for the autumn colors along the river.”

Nuxhall said it’s “neat” to see the disabled individuals served by the Miracle League can also take part in the fundraiser.

“It’s why we do what we do, to give opportunities to those who don’t have this opportunity,” he said. “Our kids have a chance to be a part of a fundraiser. It’s cool.”

The Great American Bike Rally organizers are still looking for sponsors, including ones for each of the five routes. Sponsor levels range from $100 to $2,500. For more information, email the organizers at info@greatamericanbikerally.com or visit www.greatamericanbikerally.com.
