Hamilton Police open house doubles as recruiting event

The Hamilton Police Department’s annual community open house has taken on more importance as the department looks to draw recruits to its ranks.

Police Chief Craig Bucheit told the Journal-News that the department is actively seeking recruits who help reflect the diversity of all Hamilton’s residents.

“The application deadline to take our next civil service test is 5 p.m. this Friday (Aug. 11),” he said, adding that those interested in taking the test can sign up at the open house and should bring a valid ID, resume and be able to provide an email address.

The open house from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 10, at police headquarters, 331 S. Front St., is an annual opportunity for residents to interact with law enforcement and ask questions about issues that are important to the community, according to Bucheit.

Sgt. Brian Robinson said the event is family friendly and will include several activities for children.

The event will feature free food, department tours, an opportunity to explore various vehicles and pieces of equipment, inflatables for children, and face painting.

The open house overlaps with a concert featuring Back in Black, an AC/DC tribute band, going on a few blocks away at RiversEDGE Amphitheatre.
