An Ohio Historical Marker will be dedicated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Greenwood Cemetery in honor of former U.S. Congressman Warren Gard, a Hamilton native, who helped establish the Boy Scouts of America.

The Ohio Historical Marker is being dedicated 100 years after Gard helped introduce and secure the passage of a bill that gave the Boy Scouts of America its National Charter.

Gard, born and raised in Hamilton, is the son of S.Z. Gard and Mary Duke, and the brother of Homer Gard, owner and publisher of The Hamilton Journal News for over 50 years. Besides being a Congressman, Gard was also a lawyer and judge in Hamilton for many years.

Many young men from Boy Scouts of America and Color Guard will be participating in the ceremony. Gard’s great-niece Kathleen Stuckey Fox will give the welcoming remarks. Also scheduled to participate in the event are: Becki Trivison from Ohio History Connection; State Sen. Bill Coley; Dick Sollmann, chairman of the W. E. Smith Family Charitable Trust; and David Shanteau, general manager of Greenwood Cemetery.

An exhibit featuring the history of Boy Scouts will also be on display.

Greenwood Cemetery is located at 1602 Greenwood Ave. Attendees of the event should use the Heaton Street entrance.
