Witnesses told police the child had failed to stop before crossing the street and rode his bike into the path of a GMC Jimmy driven by Britney K. Merida, 23, of Gordon Smith Boulevard, according to police reports.
The boy was treated at the scene by Hamilton fire paramedics before being flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. On Monday the child remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit, said his mother Stephanie Power.
Power said the boy’s condition has not changed and the injuries to his head are being observed.
“I was cooking Easter dinner and all my kids were down the street playing basketball,” Power said. “They were riding bikes on their way home. My (9-year-old) daughter saw the lady (Merida) and they tried to hurry and get across the street.”
The occupants of the SUV — including the driver and three children — were not injured, according to police reports. Merida will not face any charges, police said.
The 7-year-old boy is not being cited in the accident due to his age. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to police reports.
