“It was time for a refresh of Light Up Fairfield, and it is a unique event,” said city spokeswoman Jenny Dexter about the addition. “We’re just looking forward to starting a new tradition for the holidays.”

The parade’s theme is described as “general holiday/winter,” and entrants are encouraged to “be creative,” according to the parade application. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1.
The parade, which is to be mostly flat, runs from the Fairfield Municipal Building to Wessel Drive to Fairfield Commons Drive (adjacent to Village Green Park), where entrants will park their floats to present to the public. There are no entry fees in this inaugural year of the parade.
“We’re still looking for lots of participants,” Dexter said.
The application deadline is Nov. 25, and prospective participants can download an application to email, mail, hand-deliver or fill out the online form.
She said there will still be the vendor market, tree lighting and Santa Claus arriving on top of a fire truck.
“We’re doing a bigger and better tree lighting this year, so you’ll see more lights on Village Green,” Dexter said.

There will be several vendors and performers from 4 to 7 p.m. at Village Green Park, including Fairfield Starz Dancers and Fairfield show choirs performing, before a tree lighting ceremony with Santa Claus and Mayor Steve Miller.
The mayor said he likes adding “something different” to the event.
“It’s a nice festival, and it’s always been well attended,” Miller said. “Lots of kids, a lot of families. It’s just one of those events we do in Fairfield to bring the community together.
