Downtown Middletown business to close storefront, shift focus

Flores Leather Works in downtown Middletown will close at 6 p.m. today.

Owners Eber and Rebekah Flores started the business in a basement, then moved to a studio in the Pendleton Art Center before opening a storefront location at 1050 Central Ave. in 2015.

The closure came as the business has shifted and picked up numerous manufacturing work and wholesale accounts.

“While we are very excited about this transition & the future of Flores Leather Works, it is bittersweet to leave our store,” the couple wrote via Flores Leather Works’ Facebook page. “Downtown Middletown has been amazing to us and for us and we greatly appreciate all the love & support we have been shown.”

Before the business closes its storefront at 6 p.m., it is offering all items for 60 percent off.

Flores Leather Works will continue to produce and sell bags, jewelry, holsters and other leather goods, fulfill orders as normal and update its website at www.floresleatherworks.com.

Downtown Middletown Inc. said news of the storefront’s closing made for “a bittersweet day.”

“They certainly are a Downtown Middletown small business success story, continuously growing and evolving their business,” the non-profit organization said via its Facebook page.
